Wisconsin’s winters leave us with an abundance or snow and ice every year. While we recommend shoveling early and often, we understand that for safety reasons, many schools, businesses, and residents use salt on their sidewalks and driveways to minimize slips and falls. After the snow and ice melts away, we often see leftover salt on these hard surfaces. If left there, oftentimes this salt can be carried by wind, rain, and snow melt into our storm drains and then into our lakes and rivers. We want to reduce this runoff, and are asking Wisconsin residents to sweep the salt. Use the tag, #WISweeptheSalt to tag your salt-sweeping photos on social media, or send them directly to Kelly@fwwa.org. We will share these images on our social media pages, as well right below on our Wall of Fame.
